Mesoscale Discussion 1589
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0600 AM CDT Tue Aug 24 2021
Areas affected...Portions of southeastern MN...western/southern WI...northeastern IA...and far northern IL
Valid 241100Z - 241230Z
SUMMARY...An upgrade to Slight Risk will be made with the next
update to the Day 1 Convective Outlook across parts of southeastern
Minnesota, western/southern Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa, and far
northern Illinois. Severe/damaging winds are the main concern.
DISCUSSION...A well-organized MCS is expected to continue moving east-southeastward across MN this morning. A favorable environment
for maintaining storm organization and intensity should be present
downstream of this MCS through much of the day. Given the potential
for scattered severe/damaging winds to persist with the ongoing MCS
this morning, and with potential redevelopment of intense convection
later today on its southern flank and/or related outflow boundaries,
an upgrade to Slight Risk appears warranted with the next update.
Additional meteorological details will be provided in the upcoming
Day 1 Convective Outlook.
